Our community empowerment projects are unique in that we work with an array of individuals, from top leadership positions, to institutions as well as families and individuals to ensure our programs benefit the largest number of people in the best way.
Human/Wildlife Conflict
Conflict between humans and wildlife will forever be an increasing issue. As both human and wildlife populations increase the battle for space becomes more evident. Our goal is to better inform and equip the communities and land owners on preventative measures. The age old acronym “Problem Animal Control” where the animal is taken out becomes the land owner or community’s last resort unless absolutely necessary. All measures are taken into consideration to translocate the “Problem Animal” from the area.
Education
Apart from educating the communities on the benefits and importance of conservation, the need to increase education and skills in these areas will further benefit job creation and conservation awareness. Private investors have taken on the responsibility of building schools, clinics, dams etc. Our goal is to provide community members with the opportunity of attending courses in fields that will be directly linked to conservation and tourism, as well as providing basic education

It is not uncommon that the local communities are aware of wildlife related crimes in the area well before the rangers. Communities are becoming aware of the value of the wildlife in their areas and as a result are becoming an integral source of law enforcement. Community scouts that have gone though selective training programs are beneficial in setting up preventative and reactive measures for anti poaching.

Ownership
Providing communities with the sense of ownership provides further incentive to conserve and protect the wildlife areas. Currently protein from animals, donations, and portions of government license fees from hunting areas go directly into these communities. Our goal is to help the local communities receive these benefits and allocate them effectively in a sustainable manner.
Crop & Lifestock Enhancement
The local communities adjacent to the wildlife areas in our area of operation derive the majority of their wealth from cattle and maize farming. It is our aim to improve the quality of the cattle herds by applying good animal husbandry practices and to increase the yields of the small scale farmer by educating them in applying best practice farming methods and supplying good quality seed, fertilizer and pesticides.
